  • The manuscript title reflects (if applicable) the theoretical framework/theoretical tradition, research type/approach (e.g., qualitative, meta analysis, etc.), study topic (or keywords), and research location/venue, for example,

Abu-Shaqra, B., & Luppicini, R. (2016). Technoethical inquiry into ethical hacking at a Canadian university. International Journal of Technoethics (IJT), 7(1), 62-76.

  • The topic of the manuscript is appropriate for the journal
  • The abstract summarizes the background, study purpose, methodology, principal findings/results, practical and theoretical implications of the findings/results, and research significance/contribution to knowledge/scholarship
  • The selected keywords capture the key concepts of the article (e.g., 2 keywords on the methodology, 2 on the theoretical framework/tradition, and 1 on the main topic)
  • The topic of the article is clearly stated and why it is relevant to readers/scholars (usually in the introduction section)
  • The research question(s) and study purpose or objective(s) are clearly stated (usually in the background section)
  • The literature review (spanning the introduction and background sections) situates the research topic/question within the literature on the topic, method, and theoretical approach (look for debates)
  • The research design (method, theoretical framework, and how they are applied to the RQ) is clearly stated
  • The research method section identifies the research approach (e.g., the qualitative exploratory case study approach) and justifies its suitability for the research question/study objectives, explains the sampling strategy and sampling criteria, and explains the data collection and data analysis procedures
  • The conclusion section summarizes the study, explains the implications of the findings/results, explains the study’s contribution to knowledge, explains the study limitations, and outlines future research directions
  • The manuscript has a clear and coherent flow or continuity
  • The tables and figures, if any, are well designed to give a better understanding of the text/key concepts discussed
  • The tables and figures are called upon within the text
  • The information in the tables and figures is not repeated in the text
  • The references cited appropriately support the manuscript/are parsimonious, and are current
