Why did University of Ottawa Professor Andre Vellino deny me academic support?

Professor Andre Vellino was:

1) my PhD thesis advisory committee member – along with professors Rocci Luppicini and Liam Peyton (January 2016 – December 2019); and
2) my PhD thesis examiner.

Yet, when I asked Professor Andre Vellino for academic support via email on June 22, 2021, he refused to offer it. In his email reply of June 24, 2021, he said: “I don’t want to be associated with this controversy”, referring to my supervisor bullying grievances against Professor Rocci Luppicini, “in any way – no matter who is right.”

So he wrote an email to say he does not want to help me? That’s it?

Suggestively (clearly?), Professor Andre Vellino wanted to push me back to the bullying arms of my former academic supervisor Professor Rocci Luppicini.

The email from Professor Andre Vellino makes it clear such bullying incidents happen and that I should just get over it. He said, “if you are going to continue in your academic career, you are going to have to figure out a way of letting go of this and figuring out a way to be at peace with it. Please find someone who can help you.”

What a vile mentality. How snobbish.

In his email of June 24, 2021, Professor Andre Vellino advised me not to talk about my supervisor bullying case in public and suggested that speaking out about supervisor bullying grievances will hinder my attempts at getting jobs.

Thinly-veiled extortion – or did he genuinely want to help? You be the judge. And what does it say about the state of normalized bullying at the University?

According to his uOttawa profile, Professor Andre Vellino has expertise in the automation of reasoning and the representation of information by machines. Professor Andre Vellino also teaches mindfulness meditation to faculty and to the public through the Centre for Continuing Education.
